Common Sense Is Not So Common, Nonsense Is

Common sense is not as common as you think. Things usually taken fore-granted by people are actually nonsense. It is therefore nonsense that is common and not the common sense.

Common Sense Is Not So Common

When Voltaire made this statement in 1764, he surely must have faced some strong resistance from the people who thought they had common sense. It is natural for any average person to think that he has enough intelligence to effectively judge and carry out day to day activities. Unfortunately, this is not true. The truth staring us in face is that after almost 250 years, the statement made by the genius has gained more substance and has become even more relevant than before. The common sense has turned out to be the most uncommon and scarce commodity in today’s world.

You can find numerous examples of common nonsensical acts that most people perform without even thinking of the cause or consequence. They rarely use their brain where it should have been used and wastefully apply their logic where it is actually not needed. Let us have a look at some of them.

Some interesting cases of nonsense-

Too hard squeezing of cloths after the wash up

(The reality is that the water flows down by itself when the cloth is hung. You don’t have to care about it.)

People running for free vouchers and cheap recharge options

(They end up using much more talk time and wasting more money, time and brain)

Sleeping less to study for examination

(You are going to take double the time to understand and less than 50 percent chances to retain what you study)

Girls dieting to become zero size

(Almost all males like curves and loathe paper thin figure)

Dogs becoming status symbol and object of admiration

(The savage most way to welcome your visitor is by a dogs bark. Most people having dogs eat animal flesh and boast of humanity.)

Becoming salesmen for door to door marketing

(If you sell for yourself, you will earn much more and grow much faster with better experience and self respect.)

Considering metros the best place to reside

(People in metros experience acute shortage of fresh air, fresh water and fresh food. They are always tense and unhappy. Education in most schools is shallow and fruitless.)

Many of you would be peeved after reading this stuff. But, I urge you to think without prejudice and use your common sense. This list is endless and true as well. People prefer to rely on the established trends and norms rather than applying their common sense.

Why are people so nonsensical?

There are numerous reasons behind it. The belief on prevalent social notions and the fear of opposition makes people repeatedly commit the same mistakes through the ages. In fact, the gregarious nature of human beings is responsible for most of these cases. People seek confirmation with the social norms and fail to use their own common sense.

Common reasons behind the scarcity of common sense

  • Too much reliance on technology has prevented people from using their own head.
  • Most people fear social resistance and un-acceptance. So, they cannot dare to oppose anything.
  • Majority of the people think that they are intelligent enough and hence do not find a better way to do things.
  • Some intelligent people undermine their potential and do not utilize their brain to the fullest.
  • Trends and fashion statements make the easiest route to stupidity and nonsense.
  • The basic education is becoming substance-less day by day. Earning is the sole purpose of learning, the art of living a worthy life is completely ignored.
  • Mind of modern men is preoccupied with many thoughts. It leaves little room for them to apply their senses in practical life.
  • People have no time to stand and stare.
  • Dependence on tutorials for quick results has hampered natural learning process and ruined the ability to reason logically and iteratively.

Last word from me would be-

Save your common sense before it matches to an ape’s.
